    Description

Gillnetting on the Columbia River began around the 1850's, and I am told some, if not all of these, are hand-carved wood - very old.  They may be all hand-carved, but I cannot say for certain.
These are the large floats the fishermen called "footballs" - all are different - some are more worn than others.  When first made, they were soaked in paraffin wax to keep them from becoming waterlogged.  Some may still show some wax on them.  Some were painted to mark certain measurements on the nets and some may still have paint showing.  Your box will be filled with the same corks shown on the string.  These are the actual corks you will receive.
A rare, unique piece of fishing history that will never come again.  I've seen some people cutting in half and using as back/base for fishing-related artwork.  Others are displaying in or on nets or stringing together for nautical decor both inside and out.  These are the genuine, antique item and how they were used makes each one unique.
Box of 10 large cedar net floats for one price - .00 for entire box of 10.  Shipped in large flat-rate Priority Mail box - you are paying only the cost of actual postage/shipping.  No handling fee, no added shipping fees.
